Who we are

This website is run by Mmayen Assam, who writes as Mbōk. When this page says “we”, it means Mmayen and the people who help her run the site.

Reading the site

Reading the site doesn’t ask anything of you. There are no adverts, no tracking and no analytics, and the site sets no tracking or advertising cookies.

Like any website, the company that hosts it keeps short-lived technical logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure.

Book updates

If you sign up for book updates, we send your email address, your confirmation that you’re 17 or over, the wording you agreed to and the time you signed up to Kit, the service that sends the emails. Kit asks you to confirm before anything is sent.

We use your address only for news about Mmayen’s books, because you asked for it. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and we keep your address until you unsubscribe.

Stories you send

If you send a story, we keep the name or pen name you chose, your email address, your title and story, any cover image and its description, the boxes you ticked and when you sent it. It all stays private while Mmayen reads it.

If she publishes your story, only your chosen name, the title, the story and the cover appear on the site. Your email address is never shown, and we use it only about your story. Sending a story doesn’t sign you up for book updates.

We keep a submission only for as long as we need it. Ask at any time and we’ll delete yours, or take your published story down.

To stop the form being flooded, we also keep a scrambled code made from your email address for one day. It can’t be turned back into your address.

Spam protection

Both forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. To do that, Cloudflare looks at technical information from your browser.

Who else handles your details

  • Vercel hosts the website.
  • Sanity stores the site’s words and pictures, and the stories you send.
  • Kit sends the book-update emails.
  • Cloudflare provides the spam check.

Some of these companies are based outside the UK, including in the United States.

Age

This site is written for readers aged 17 and over, and its forms are only for people aged 17 and over.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw your consent at any time. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your details, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
